The Dallas Cowboys will soon have to make a number of important decisions.
Jerry Jones and company have two more significant decisions to make in the near future, in addition to determining whether it makes the most sense to trade or release their franchise quarterback, maintain Dak Prescott on his present contract, which will deliver a serious blow to the salary cap.
Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb, two of the team’s top emerging players, are approaching the conclusion of their rookie contracts and will need to secure a sizable paycheck soon in order to remain in Dallas.
Lamb just had a breakthrough season in which Dallas Cowboys wideout Mike McCarthy made the most of his usage. He was named to the First Team All-Pro in 2023 and concluded the season as one of the NFL’s best wide receivers.
Since the Cowboys selected Parsons in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Penn State, he has been an incredible wrecking ball.
With 64 tackles and 14 sacks in 2023, he earned his third straight trip to the Pro Bowl. He also won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 and had back-to-back First-Team All-Pro seasons in his first two years in the NFL.
Back in October, ESPN Insider Dan Graziano referenced the Dallas Cowboys “big three” and their forthcoming contracts.
For the first time, Micah Parsons will be qualified for an extension over the upcoming summer. The Cowboys will be discussing an agreement with quarterback Dak Prescott in the upcoming offseason. They also still hope to close a deal with CeeDee Lamb.
But Parsons will probably be the team’s first priority and could end up with a record-breaking defensive player contract.
For at least a year, the Cowboys have been preparing for this transaction.
Jerry Jones mentioned during training camp this past summer that big changes might need to be made to free up funds in order to pay the edge rusher who won a record-breaking contract.
fits the demands of the market at the moment for his role.
“To pay Parsons, we require the funds. To compensate the players we will eventually have to pay, we need the money. That is true. That isn’t even a theory. It is what it is. We have this at this point, and those money are there. You could never assemble a roster even if you redrew every contract.
