The Detroit Lions 2023 season has concluded, which means we can now shift gears and begin to look ahead to the 2024 offseason.
For this constantly updated post, we will focus on the Lions’ roster as it approaches free agency and the NFL Draft. This page is divided into position groups and will give fans an overview of the players on the roster, injured reserve, and practice squad at the end of the season.
Within each section, we will offer readers with an end-of-season depth chart at the position, describe the roles individuals played, the 2024 contract details of the Lions’ existing signings, and a few essential terms to help clarify each player’s status.
UFA: Unrestricted. Free agents may sign with any team during the free agency period, which begins on March 13 (tampering negotiations begin on March 11th).
The Lions can re-sign these players at any time.
RFA: Restricted. The Lions hold free agent rights.
If an RFA accepts a deal from another team, the Lions may match the offer or earn draft compensation for allowing the player to leave.
ERFA: Exclusive rights. Free agents can only negotiate contracts with the Lions until Detroit allows them to explore free agency.
Street Free Agents (SFA) are players that were under contract with an NFL team in 2023 but were not on the active roster at the end of the season. They are free to join any team.2024 Cap Hit:
How much a player contributes to the team’s 2024 salary cap.
Guarantees remaining:
This refers to the remaining guaranteed money owed to the player during the course of his contract, not only in 2024.
If the Lions release a player with guaranteed money, the amount will be counted against the team’s cap even if the player is no longer on the roster (“dead cap”).
This category also includes expiring contracts with VOIDED years.
