After rounds of interviews and a slew of contenders, the Buffalo Bills have finally identified their next defensive coordinator.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bills have hired their new defensive coordinator internally, promoting linebackers coach Bobby Babich.

Babich, a former cornerback at North Dakota State, began his coaching career in 2006
Bobby Babich, the son of long-time football coach Bob Babich, began his first season as a graduate assistant for the Kent State Golden Flas.
He began working as a secondary coach at Eastern Illinois in 2007 and stayed for four years.
The younger Babich joined the NFL in 2011, taking on an administrative role with the Carolina Panthers.
In 2012, he moved into coaching, working as a defensive assistant for then-Carolina defensive coordinator Sean McDermott.
The Oklahoma native joined the Cleveland Browns’ secondary in 2013, where he spent three years.
After a one-year stint with the FIU Panthers, Babich rejoined DermMcott, who is currently the head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
He served as an assistant defensive backs coach during his first season in 2017, before taking over as safeties coach from 2018 to 2021.
Babich took over as linebackers coach in 2022, after spending the previous two seasons as a cornerback. However, he will now serve as defensive coordinator beginning next year.
Bobby Babich will become the team’s third defensive coordinator under Sean McDermott’s tenure.
Leslie Frazier, the former Minnesota Vikings head coach, oversaw the defense from 2017 to 2022 before leaving the organization last year.
The Bills had outstanding defensive numbers with Frazier, allowing only 17.9 points per game in 2022, the NFL’s second-lowest average.
Last season, McDermott took over for Frazier, and the Bills finished in the top ten for fewest points and yards allowed.
Five players recorded at least five sacks, with Leonard Floyd topping the list with 10.5. Linebacker Terrel Bernard, who worked especially with Babich last season, put up monster statistics for the Bills.
The 24-year-old recorded 143 tackles, 6.5 sacks, ten TFLs, three interceptions, and
NFL coaching positions.
