The Dallas Cowboys could sign Mike Vrabel, the former Tennessee Titans head coach, as their next defensive coordinator. Dallas is looking for a new defensive coordinator after Dan Quinn left to join the Washington Commanders. Vrabel sounds like an intriguing name, especially because he is not projected to land a head coaching position this year. Many in the NFL are shocked that he and Bill Belichick would most likely be without a head coaching job this following season.
However, there is still a chance Vrabel will come to Dallas and take over the Cowboys defense. According to sources, Belichick will likely take some time off before finding his next head coaching position. There were expectations that he would become the new Atlanta Falcons coach, but conversations did not progress. However, Vrabel may play it safe this season as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
This is anticipated to be Mike McCarthy’s final season as Cowboys head coach. Vrabel could play the long game and help the Cowboys’ defense stealth his way into becoming the next head coach in 2025.
This is simply speculation that he could play, but he might improve his value with theteam, even as DC. Vrabel, like Quinn, is simply seeking to get his name back out there, and the coordinator position is the ideal opportunity for him.
Many Tennessee Titans players are still surprised that the franchise has moved on from Vrabel. While Dallas interviews Ron Rivera and Mike Zimmer, they may look into Vrabel if they are not interested.
Rabel may be overqualified for the defensive coordinator position, but there are no available NFL head coaching openings. The former Titans coach has previously won three Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots. Because of his background as a linebacker, he is well-versed in defense. Vrabel was a former All-Pro and Pro Bowler.
This does not obscure the outstanding career he boasts on his coaching resume. He guided the Titans to four consecutive winning seasons before difficulties dominated the past two. Vrabel helped Tennessee win the 2019 AFC Championship. He was also voted Coch of the Year after the Titans finished 12-5 in 2021.
Some argue that there is a drawback to this hire. If McCarthy does not receive an extension, he might emerge as the next head coach if he is named defensive coordinator in 2024. However, this would not be a bad thing. If everything goes as planned, Vrabel might lead the Cowboys to their first NFC Championship since 1995. Dallas has the right spices on its defense, and they may choose Vrabel as the next chef.
This is if they are not interested in Rivera.Or Zimmer, which appears doubtful. However, if Vrabel can bring the same mentality that he had in 2021, the Cowboys could finally seem like a different club.
