The Dallas Cowboys conducted a comprehensive search for their next defensive coordinator.

While it took a few weeks, they ultimately found a coach who they are excited to welcome. Mike Zimmer has officially been appointed as Dallas’ next head coach.

Zimmer is a veteran NFL coach who most recently served as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

The Cowboys intended to hire a previous head coach as their defensive coordinator.

Zimmer should help transform the defense’s culture and make them more disciplined than in the past.

According to RJ Ochoa, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy stated this about Zimmer:

“I’ve always had so much regard for Mike.

I just think it’s the perfect fit for us.

“Zimmer and McCarthy previously competed in the NFC North as coaches.

As a result, they are familiar with one another and their respective coaching techniques.

Also, Zimmer has already coached the Cowboys.

He was their DC from 2000 to 2006.Zimmer understands what it takes to coach in Dallas, including the expectations that come with it.

In 2023, the Cowboys’ defense struggled to stop good offenses.

Teams such as the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and Green Bay Packers ripped the defense apart.

The Cowboys’ playoff loss to Green Bay was the last straw for many fans.

Having a new DC in the building may not be a negative thing for Dallas.

Dan Quinn’s stint has over, and it’s time to see what a new coach can achieve.
