The Dallas Cowboys have a new defensive coordinator.
With Dan Quinn departing town to join their divisional opponent, the Washington Commanders, they sought an experienced replacement.
That’s why they sought out Mike Zimmer, one of the top defensive brains available for hire.
Notably, former Cowboys legend Michael Irvin is overjoyed with the new hire.
During his appearance on Undisputed, the Hall of Famer reflected on his time as a defensive backs coach with the Cowboys three decades ago.
“I really do think this is a great hire,” Irvin remarked. He discussed how Zimmer always had the defensive backs ready to play and the intensity he brought to practice every day.
The great wide receiver believes this is exactly what the Cowboys needed for that defense, as he thought Dan Quinn’s unit was not always prepared to produce, which obviously came back to haunt them when it counted the most.
Irvin had previously criticized Quinn, thus his departure from the team did not surprise him.
The Cowboys possessed a great pass defense and were an exceptional pass-rushing team under Quinn’s three years, but they always fell short when the season was on the line.
Now, he could be just what Micah Parsons needs to take that huge step forward and become a leader, but he has also left a lot to be desired when the Cowboys needed him the most.
