A former Cleveland Browns quarterback will leave the NFL to become a coach for the 2024 season. The league experienced some staff turnover this week following the Super Bowl, but most coaching openings should be filled within the next week or so.

A former Cleveland Browns quarterback retires.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, former Browns quarterback David Blough has taken a position as the Washington Commanders’ assistant quarterbacks coach. Blough will work with Kliff Kingsbury, the Commanders’ offensive coordinator.

After the 2019 NFL Draft, the Browns signed Blough as an undrafted free agent. The Purdue product was traded to the Detroit Lions in August 2019. He would stay in Detroit until the 2021 season. Blough played for the Minnesota Vikings and the Arizona Cardinals before concluding his career with the Detroit Lions in 2023.

Blough last appeared in a regular season for the Cardinals in 2022. He concluded his career with 1,435 passing yards, six touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Blough will most certainly work with one of the league’s best talents in the 2024 NFL Draft, as the Commanders are expected to choose second overall. Rumors suggest that the Commanders will try to make a trade with the Chicago Bears for the top pick.
