Former Auburn running back and 1985 Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson returned to his alma university on Wednesday night, when the 13th-ranked Auburn men’s basketball team played the 11th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks in a vital SEC game.
Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl did not mince words before of Wednesday’s game against South Carolina.
“Fortunately for Auburn, the Tigers were playing at Neville Arena, where they were 12-0 this season.
And, against South Carolina, Jackson decided he wanted to be a part of the Neville Arena magic and joined Auburn’s student section, fondly known as The Jungle, for the first half of the game on Wednesday night.
If we want to win the (SEC) championship, we have to beat South Carolina tomorrow,” Pearl told the media on Tuesday.
“It’s pretty basic.
Hugh Freeze, Auburn’s head football coach, was also on hand for Wednesday night’s game, joining Jackson in The Jungle for much of the first half.
While cheering for the Tigers, Freeze and Jackson grabbed numerous photographs with supporters as Auburn stormed out to a 50-28 halftime lead over South Carolina.
