Without a doubt, running back Derrick Henry will be one of the biggest fish in the NFL free agency ocean in 2024.

Most people expect Henry to enter the market, with the Green Bay Packers being a top contender for the behemoth tailback’s services.

The Packers still have AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones, but as Max Dible of Heavy points out, Green Bay has the option of releasing Dillon and attempting to negotiate Jones’ contract to make the team’s cap position more palatable for a potential Henry signing.

This would give the Packers an older 1-2 punch in the backfield, although a potent one, given how well Henry performed all of last season and how strong Jones came on at the conclusion of the year once healthy.

The two together may cost more money than most organizations are prepared to spend on a running back duo in today’s NFL, when the position is constantly devalued.

Henry turned 30 last January, while Jones turned 29 in December. That is mature running back age, but those two’s star power is undeniable.

Making them the Green Bay Packers’ 1-2 ground option sounds like a nightmare for rival defensive coordinators, especially given the promising quarterback Jordan Love’s continued growth and maturity.

But it’s one thing to envisage Henry and Jones on the same team, and it’s another to prepare for Green Bay’s future without the two running backs, especially given how short those players’ careers are.
