No. 16 Texas baseball placed the Houston Christian Huskies in the dog pound in its first midweek game of the season after amassing 24 hits in total—seven doubles, a triple, and three home runs—to win 20-3.

Texas gave it all to Texas’s head coach Steve Sarkisian, who was caught cheering from the seats, after leaving HCU stranded with the bases loaded and failing to score at the bottom of the first.

Tuesday night’s total of doubles, triples, and home runs by the Longhorns was more than their total from the three days of play the previous weekend against San Diego.

Head Coach David Pierce remarked, “It’s difficult to get that kind of explosive offense in any game. We took on some quality pitching on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

” “I believe that staying disciplined is crucial.

I’ll be prepared to strike out if I receive a pitch.

Redshirt sophomore Luke Harrison made his mound debut for Texas, but he struggled to settle in and gave up three walks, two hits, and one run at the end of the first inning, leaving the Longhorns behind 1-0.

Easton Tumis, a freshman, replaced him early and managed to hold the Huskies in check for the next two innings.

Senior infielder Jack O’Dowd then went on a scoring rampage, launching a double to right field and driving in two runs with a single from junior Rylan Galvan.

Freshman Will Gasparino’s single drove Galvan home, and sophomore Jared Thomas’s double loaded the bases.

With a 3-1 advantage at the end of the second inning, the LonghornsThey appeared unstoppable there.
With just one hit and no walks through the third inning, Tumis gave Texas the opportunity to increase their lead.

Jalin Flores, a sophomore, scored on an RBI single from O’Dowd after launching a double to left center field and moving to third on a passed ball.

Galvan scored a second double, and eventually O’Dowd and Galvan reached home base once again, giving Texas a 6-1 lead.
Even after HCU scored another run in the top of the fifth, Texas responded immediately with a home run from Galvan.

Dee Kennedy, a rookie infielder, skidded a ball to the back of left field and raced to third base.and made a wayward pitch to score.

You would be very mistaken if you believed Texas was finished as senior Peyton Powell promptly followed with a home run to right field, setting the score at 11-2 with runs from Thomas and Gasparino.

Twelve players for the Longhorns recorded hits, and Pierce reported that he has been providing opportunities for other athletes to bat. Additionally, Texas fell one hit short of its 2009 record of 25 hits.

Pierce stated, “I want to see some young players who are really good go out, get comfortable, and really just not miss a beat.

” “I thought, for the most part, we saw a lot of that.

” Fans started to leave with four innings remaining, but several stayed to watch the Longhorns add nine more points to their total, with freshman Casey Borba hitting his first home run for the team.

In their second series of the season, Texas will play Cal Poly from February 23 to 25.
