Star running back Jonathan Brooks of the Texas Longhorns suffered an ACL tear against the TCU Horned Frogs in November, ending his season in the NFL and putting his future in doubt for the rest of the fall and into the New Year.

By all accounts, though, Brooks has recovered quickly, and as was mentioned earlier this week, he should be fully recovered by this summer’s training camp.

And he reaffirmed that information in his interviews on Friday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

“I’m weeks into my recovery, so I’m just starting to get to running,” Brooks stated. The training camp timeline is anticipated.

Brooks had four consecutive 100-yard games during his incredible final season with the Longhorns, including a 218-yard, two-touchdown performance against Kansas.

On 187 carries, he ended with 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns.

When fit, Brooks possesses every quality that organizations look for in a lead rusher. He slashes with decisiveness and moves deftly past the first line of defenders.

When in the open field, Brooks can outrun defensive backs in the second and third gears for substantial gains and reliable firstScouts are worried about how much of a play he makes.

At 207 pounds, Brooks may start his career as a rotational back and add weight to strengthen his body in preparation for impacts at a higher level.

Though they won’t be made public until he weighs in at the combine.

Though there is competition for the top spot, Brooks is ranked as the No. 1 running back prospect by NFL Network’s most recent draft rankings. Trey Benson of Florida State, Bucky Irving of Oregon, Jaylen Wright of Tennessee, and Audric Estime of Notre Dame are all possible candidates to make progress with a strong showing at Lucas Oil Stadium.
