One of Tennessee’s fiercest in-conference opponents in college basketball, the Auburn Tigers, is a team they recently finished playing. In addition to trying to maintain their lead over the SEC as the top seed in conference tournament play and to be the top seed in March Madness, Tennessee had a lot riding on them in this game.

The Volunteers finished this game in spectacular fashion, defeating the Auburn Tigers at home to enter the Alabama game as the #4-ranked team in the country.

As usual, he was the bright spot, but this time he scored a season-high 39 points, 25 of which came in the final 11 minutes of play when the Volunteers were behind by eight points.

In the crucial moments of the game, he performed exceptionally well for the Volunteers, shooting 5-8 from three-point range. Overall, it was amazing and surreal to watch.

The Negative
With a poor performance, Jordan Gainey shot 1-6 from the field.

Although it wasn’t enough to alter the result of the game, it would have been beneficial if he could have shot the ball with more consistency.

Zakai Zeigler likewise had some difficulty making free throws; eventually, he was able to shoot at a set %, but he struggled to get going early.

Though it’s something to think about, Tennessee fans shouldn’t be alarmed by this.
All night long, the Volunteers were having foul trouble.

Both Jonas Aidoo and Santiago Vescovi committed fouls, with Aidoo fouling out in the closing minutes of the match. Due to their 15 turnovers during the game, the Volunteers also turned the ball over more often than they would have liked.

Going forward, they will need to adjust this a little bit, particularly in crucial games like this one on Saturday.
