Before free agency opens, the Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly about to make a move to retain a 2023 player for the team’s impending three-peat campaign.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Chiefs are “expected to reach an agreement on a new contract” with linebacker Drue Tranquill.
Tranquill’s contract is for three years and $19 million, of which $13 million is fully guaranteed, according to Adam Schefter’s report.
Prior to the 2023 season, Tranquill inked a one-year, $3 million contract with the Chiefs, and he went on to play more than 53 percent of the team’s defensive snaps throughout the regular season.
Throughout the season, Tranquill filled in for a number of positions, including starting middle linebacker Nick Bolton, without the defense showing any discernible weakness.

“It has been quite hectic,” Tranquill remarked. “You know, as a child, you dream about this.
You wish to participate in this game. This is the biggest game in the biggest league in the world, the ultimate football match. It’s funny to think back on that text that Coach Reid sent, but it’s weird. Although it’s been a long eight, or perhaps ten, months since then, we’ve worked really hard and are thrilled about this chance.”
