The Houston Texans intend to make significant squad signings in order to capitalize on their successful 2023 campaign.

The 2024 offseason’s highlight play has been the acquisition of Daniele Jones from the Minnesota Vikings.

But, ardent Texans supporters saw right away that once Hunter entered the building, an intriguing conundrum would arise.

With the Vikings, he donned the number 99, which was once owned by Texans great JJ Watt during his ten-year tenure there.

The skilled defensive end’s decision to remain with his number one pick would not have shocked many, but Watt and the supporters were happy with it.

Can Danielle Hunter fulfill the legacy of JJ Watt?Hunter will have a difficult time attempting to equal, let alone surpass, Watt’s contributions to Texans folklore.

Watt recorded 531 tackles in his ten years in Houston, 449 of which came from single efforts.

He also recorded 101 sacks, 25 forced fumbles, 61 pass deflections, 16 fumble recoveries for one score, and two interceptions for 99 yards and two pick-sixes.

The 29-year-old LSU graduate has had an incredible career as well. 316 of his 462 tackles were from solo efforts.

Additionally, he has deflected eight passes.

Hunter would likely need to help the Houston Texans win the Super Bowl in his first season on the team in order to surpass Watt’s legacy there.
