The Green Bay Packers are still forced to make tough choices each and every off-season. They have let go of a few well-liked players for the past three years.
There have been many more, but Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers, and Aaron Jones are undoubtedly at the top of the list.
The Packers made the decision to let go of a former All-Pro this week. Although it wasn’t a shocking move, it did expose a weakness in the Packers’ defense.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers have signed Campbell, a first-team All-Pro in 2022, to a one-year contract for 2024.
On March 13, he was released with a post-June 1 destination, which caused the salary cap relief to be delayed by almost $10.57 million on June 2.
It came as no great surprise when the Packers released Campbell. After signing as a cheap veteran in 2021, he was recognized as the team’s All-Pro in 2022, which led to a five-year, $50 million contract extension.
He did, however, struggle to play regularly for a defense that appeared lost for a large portion of the 2023 season and missed six games due to injuries.
Following the announcement of his signing, Campbell joked about his former team, the Green Bay Packers, on Instagram.
When fans saw this on Twitter (X) they certainly had a few reactions:
Fans of the Packers will probably be keeping an eye on Campbell’s performance with the San Francisco 49ers this season.
If the teams play each other again in the postseason, I would anticipate some hard hitting from both teams.
