Chiefs news: Carson Wentz signs on to back up Patrick Mahomes for 2024

Wentz participated in the 2022 NFL season with the Washington Commanders and the 2021 season with the Indianapolis Colts prior to the 2021 season.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who selected him second overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, was the team he spent his first five seasons playing for.

The former top player for North Dakota State was a key member of the Eagles’ 2017 Super Bowl LII winning squad, starting 13 games and winning 11 of them before suffering an ACL tear that prevented him from playing the rest of the way.

Wentz was third in the MVP voting that season despite his season-ending injury, and the Eagles went on to win Super Bowl LII in February 2018 after defeating the New England Patriots 41-33.

Wentz, who has signed with Kansas City, will play for his sixth team in as many seasons.

He will be joining a quarterback room that already features Ian Book of Notre Dame and Chris Oladokun of South Dakota State.

Wentz has completed 2,073 passes on 3,308 attempts (62.7%) for 22,292 yards, 153 touchdowns, and 67 interceptions in 95 career games, including 93 starts, throughout his eight-year NFL career.
