During his four years in Buffalo, Stefon Diggs caught 445 receptions for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns.
Throughout his 66 games with the Bills, the four-time Pro Bowler averaged 6.7 receptions and 87.4 yards.
Following Diggs’ Wednesday trade to the Texans, the Bills acknowledge that they will be without his output.
Are we really any better now? Most likely not, Brandon Beane, general manager of the Bills, stated during a press conference following the transaction.
We’ll keep working on it because it’s a work in progress.
I simply want everyone to know that I’m very competitive and that I won’t back down.
And we will continue to search while we work through this. And I have faith in: A.
The players we have on the roster, as well as the staff above who assist me and who I know will keep looking for parts to add and who will be prepared to go come September.
Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Tyrell Shavers, K.J. Hamler, and Andy Isabella are the remaining players for the Bills. Trent Sherfield, Deonte Harty, and Gabe Davis have all left this summer.
Shakir, whose 39 catches placed him third among wide receivers behind Diggs and Davis, is the only wide receiver still in the lineup who caught a ball for the Bills in the previous year.
For the time being, it looks like a receiver-by-committee strategy, with the Bills needing a receiver and maybe two or three in the draft.
“Stef has undoubtedly been our one during the years he’s been here.
Beane stated, “I think we can all agree to that.
” “I believe that there are now a greater variety of guys and volume.”
We all know we’re still working through the cap, so I’m not going to come up here today and say, “Look, I’ve got another one to walk in the door.
” As far as expectations go, I wouldn’t expect to come in here within the next week and say, “Look what we have.
” We do, I believe, have a great deal of faith in our offense and the other guys, including the backs, the two tight ends, and the receivers.
Furthermore, we don’t start playing games until September.
By now, I hope you are aware that I will stop at nothing to give our staff and I the opportunity to offer each room more depth and competition.
That way, when it comes time to play, we will have a team we can be proud of, one that will compete well and give us a chance to win.
Beane stated that the decision does not indicate a rebuild for the Bills, who under Josh Allen as quarterback have failed to overcome adversity and reach the Super Bowl six times.
I hope you understand by now that I will do all in my power to provide our staff and I the chance to present each room with greater depth and competition. In this manner, we will have a team we can be happy with come game time, one that will play well and give us a chance to win.
According to Beane, the Bills, who have failed to overcome hardship and make it to the Super Bowl six times with quarterback Josh Allen, do not need to rebuild after this choice.
