Collingwood key player has been ruled out due to serious injury
Collingwood’s injury problem continues, with Jordan De Goey and Mason Cox out for long periods.
Collingwood star Jordan De Goey will miss up to a month of football, while Mason Cox will be sidelined for at least six weeks, as the reigning premiers deal with the consequences of their increasing injury toll.
Versatile tall Jeremy Howe (groin) and Jack Bytel (concussion) are scheduled to play against the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.
The pair will be put to the test during the Magpies’ big training session on Wednesday.
However, De Goey remains out with what has now been identified as an abdominal tendon tear, while Cox is undergoing concussion procedures and has a knee issue.
De Goey missed Friday’s match against Fremantle due to “groin awareness” in round ten.
“Further assessment revealed Jordan De Goey sustained an acute rectus abdominal tendon tear,” the Magpies stated.
“The 28-year-old is working through his rehab program and is expected [to] return within three to four weeks.”
Ruck-forward Cox received a blow to the face during the Dockers’ match and twisted his knee in a tackle.
“In addition to the concussion, scans have confirmed Cox sustained a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury from the match,” the statement said.
“The 33-year-old is expected to return in six weeks’ time while he rehabilitates the MCL injury.”
In addition, Collingwood goalkeeper Brody Mihocek aggravated his hamstring injury against Fremantle and will be out for three to five weeks.
Joe Richards, a breakout fan favourite, suffered a metatarsal injury in the same game and will be sidelined for four to five weeks.
Fellow forward Jamie Elliott is still on a reduced training schedule while dealing with a vascular problem, but he expects to return in the next two to five weeks.
Tom Mitchell (plantar fasciitis) will be out for the same amount of time as Elliott, while Will Hoskin-Elliott (hamstring) is scheduled to return in a week.
