The New York Yankees are reportedly trading Veteran to Mets in Rare Cross-Town deal

The Yankees and Mets allegedly agreed on a stunning deal on Friday.

The New York Yankees aren’t bashful about making changes.

The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is almost two months away, but the Yankees aren’t slowing down. According to El Extra Base’s Daniel Álvarez-Montes and Sports Illustrated’s Pat Ragazzo, the New York Yankees transferred veteran catcher Luis Torrens to their rival New York Mets on Friday.

“The New York Mets are acquiring (catcher) Luis Torrens from the New York Yankees and are expected to add him to the active roster before tonight’s game, sources tell El Extra Base,” stated Martinez-Montes.

“Can confirm, Mets are acquiring C Luis Torrens from the Yankees and plan to activate him tonight,” Ragazzo said. “Francisco Alvarez is off today; he’ll be in Binghamton on Saturday and Sunday. Mets will re-evaluate from there, I’m told, but the assumption is he’ll require additional rehab games.

Torrens, a six-year big league veteran, has yet to play in the majors this season. He signed with the Yankees on a minor league agreement prior of the 2024 season and has spent the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

It is unknown what the Yankees will receive in exchange for Torrens at this time. He played in 30 games for Scranton and hit five home runs, drove in 19 runs, and slashed.279/.339/.469.

It appears like he will have more opportunities in the big leagues with the Mets, so he hopes to impress and stay in New York.
