Birmingham City linked with shock swoop for “top class manager”

Birmingham City are said to have contacted representatives of West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan.

Birmingham City are prepared for life in League One after being relegated from the Championship.

The Blues were sixth in the standings until John Eustace was controversially replaced by Wayne Rooney in October, but following a sudden drop in form, they were relegated on the penultimate day of the season, and they will play in the third tier for the first time in 30 years next season.

Birmingham are looking for a new manager after Tony Mowbray resigned due to health issues, and a number of names have been associated with the position at St Andrew’s in recent weeks, including Liam Rosenior, Alex Neil, and Paul Heckingbottom.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan is the most recent name on the Blues’ radar, and according to Football Insider, the Spaniard’s representatives have been in communication with the Midlands club.

Corberan guided the Baggies to fifth place in the Championship this season, and despite being defeated by Southampton in the play-off semi-finals, the 41-year-old is garnering a lot of attention this summer.

Burnley are rumored to be interested in Corberan as they look for a successor for Vincent Kompany following his transfer to Bayern Munich, while Leicester City are also said to be interested in him, since Enzo Maresca is poised to leave for Chelsea.

Corberan is apparently “keen to leave West Brom this summer after facing numerous challenges during his time at The Hawthorns” and appears to have no shortage of admirers.
