Gerrit Cole prepares for his return with the Yankees
Before returning to the Big Leagues, the Bronx Bombers pitcher will make a couple starts in the Minor Leagues.
The big news for the New York Yankees is that their best pitcher, Gerrit Cole, will start for the Double-A Somerset Patriots for the first time. Cole will need to make a few starts in the lower leagues before making a comeback to the major league stages of baseball, according to the Bronx Bombers manager.
Since spring training, Cole has been out with nerve irritation in his right elbow, which did not necessitate Tommy John surgery. Since the latter week of May, he has been easing back into action with workouts against hitters.
Gerrit Cole said that things are moving along well and that he is looking forward to returning to the mound. He said, “I wouldn’t rule it out…we are moving forward at a good pace,” indicating that he may be prepared by June.
Gerrit Cole will need at least a couple of Minor League starts, Aaron Boone said. So if that's two, he could line up for the June 14-16 series at Boston.

The seasoned pitcher often studies to track the development of his recuperation. Dr. Neal El Attrache’s diagnosis said that Cole’s ligament had sustained no more damage.
Even though the Yankees’ rotation has adjusted well to losing their best pitcher, Aaron Boone’s squad may be able to make up for Clarke Schmidt’s absence if Gerrit Cole returns in June. Schmidt was placed on the injured list at the end of May and is expected to stay there for at least a month.
